Of Signs & Omens & Good Times

I saw a dragon in the sky today.

Yes, a real live oh-my-god-Brett-STOPTHECAR dragon.

We’ve got a storm system rolling through right now, and as we were driving home from work on the I270 outerbelt, far west side, I was watching the dark layers of clouds. You could see the cloud-shelves (long cloud layers stacked on top of each other), and the thunderheads, and the huge rolling puffy clouds on top of THOSE, and there, against a low layer of dark grey to the west, swam the dragon.

An Asian dragon. Light-smoky-grey, swirling against the dark-cloud-grey, it was as ephemeral as the clouds and stretching at least a couple miles across the sky. It was clear, from its huge lion-like maned head & blunt snout to its long snakelike body with the jagged spine and furred tail. Rational-minded folks would’ve said “Nah, you were just cloud-gazing”; no, you couldn’t have seen this and NOT said it was a dragon. It was that clear & that defined, that kind of image that gets your brain into the “I am NOT seeing this oh my god, I am, I am, WOW ohshitohshitohshit” loop.

And it was looking at me. You can’t mistake that gaze for anything else.

So I’m staring back at it, and staring, and staring, and finally get my wits together to go, “oh my god, Brett, LOOK, a DRAGON — stop the car stop the car!” Since Brett was driving, he couldn’t turn to look, and just as he was starting to pull the car over, the dragon vanished, dove back into the clouds and dissolved, with only its tail sticking out for a few more seconds to show where it had been, and then the tail broke up & vanished behind it.

Finicky cantankerous contrary beautiful storm-dragon…

*shivers*

Okay. As you all probably know from my previous griping, I turn 40 on Wednesday. So, to celebrate, I hereby ORDER my friends list to make the following yummy delicious Berry Brandy Milkshake & not only enjoy the healthiness of it, but the wonderful yumminess:

2 cups vanilla ice cream (original recipe called for low-fat, if you’re really health-conscious)
1/2 cup low-fat milk
1/2 cup sliced strawberries
1/2 cup blackberries
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup brandy (optional, but oh so delicious)

Put all that into a blender & puree until smooth. Serve immediately; serves 4.

Salut!
