The BBC censors Pogues’ “Fairytale of New York”
For those not familiar with the Pogues or this song, it’s on my list of all time great Christmas songs, if only for the line, “You scumbag, you maggot, you cheap lousy faggot, happy Christmas you arse, thank god it’s our last”. Which is probably what set the BBC off, thinking about it, but ye GODS, folks, the song’s several years old, don’t tell me that you’re just NOW getting upset over it…!!
Fairytale is right up there with Blink 182’s “I Won’t Be Home For Christmas”, in my book. And Cartman’s version of “Oh Holy Night”.
(and for those wanting a little more…um…reverent music…my all-time absolute FAVORITE Yule album is Loreena McKennitt’s “A Winter’s Garden”. Beautiful work. I listen to it even during the summer!)
